After reading your column, I looked at my driver's license and see it's good until 2012. I wonder if I am as I will soon be 89. As we live in this little town of Vermillion, I don't think I will have to take a number and wait to get an agent to take all that paper work. By the way, what do you know about the county mountie's pulling you over for speeding? Happen to be well acquaited with that drill, after those 28 trips and back when we were spending our winters in Arizona.. The toughest part was listening to Ginny, berating me for the cost of the fines. I never heard any one say they like the picture on their driver's license, me included.

Hey, I am a writer with a good imagination--I don't need personal experience with being stopped for speeding in order to write about it. (Of course, there was that one time on Sheridan Lake Road, with a couple of the kids in the car--but we've all forgotten that, I'm sure.)

It's something like "we can't get a loan if we don't have a credit history, but we can't get a credit history because we haven't taken a loan" and all those other fancy fallacies we hear once in a while. But, there's still something quite enlightening about falling in line to get that all-important driver's license. Its existence alone says that you're a real person (given that it doesn't get stolen). But yeah, buying a car is relatively easier than this.

Renewing driving license is a hectic work and when there is something wrong like as you said that your surname was changed, then it becomes more hectic with annoyance. I had the same case and I know how I was feeling at that time.

Hmm, yeah. Compared to getting your license for the first time (though both tasks are quite time-consuming), there's not much excitement in renewing. It's a matter that requires patience and waiting, in order to continue the fun activity of driving.
